T20 World Cup: Chameera, Kumara back in Sri Lankan squad
T20 World Cup: Both Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, who were sidelined by injuries and were unable to play for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, have been selected in the squad that will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup, provided that they are healthy enough to do so. Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara both suffered from injuries that prevented them from playing for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.
The remaining thirteen members of Sri Lanka’s team for the Twenty20 World Cup were all members of the expanded Sri Lankan squad that competed in and won the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was held not too long ago and was won by Sri Lanka by defeating Pakistan. The Twenty20 World Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates from May 30 to June 1.
T20 World Cup: Omitted players from the Asia Cup squad
Dinesh Chandimal, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwanindu Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Nuwan Thushara were the members of the Twenty20 Asia Cup team that were not selected for the Twenty20 World Cup roster.
Bandara, Jayawickrama, Chandimal, Binura Fernando, and Nuwanindu Fernando are the players that have been nominated to serve as stand-by players on Sri Lanka Cricket’s 15-man roster. The overall number of players on the team is now thirty after this new addition.
Kumara played their final international matches for Sri Lanka against India in the Mohali Test in March of 2022. Chameera was unable to compete in the Asia Cup because of an injury to his calf, and Kumara played his last match for Sri Lanka against India in the Mohali Test. In their absence, Karunaratne, Madushanka, and Madushan, who collectively collected a total of 19 wickets during Sri Lanka’s winning campaign, were tasked with the task of maintaining the pace of play. They were successful in this endeavor.
