
T20 World Cup: Both Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, who were sidelined by injuries and were unable to play for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, have been selected in the squad that will compete in the Twenty20 World Cup, provided that they are healthy enough to do so. Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara both suffered from injuries that prevented them from playing for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup.
The remaining thirteen members of Sri Lanka’s team for the Twenty20 World Cup were all members of the expanded Sri Lankan squad that competed in and won the Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was held not too long ago and was won by Sri Lanka by defeating Pakistan. The Twenty20 World Cup will take place in the United Arab Emirates from May 30 to June 1.
T20 World Cup: Omitted players from the Asia Cup squad
Dinesh Chandimal, Matheesha Pathirana, Nuwanindu Fernando, Asitha Fernando, Ashen Bandara, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Nuwan Thushara were the members of the Twenty20 Asia Cup team that were not selected for the Twenty20 World Cup roster.
Bandara, Jayawickrama, Chandimal, Binura Fernando, and Nuwanindu Fernando are the players that have been nominated to serve as stand-by players on Sri Lanka Cricket’s 15-man roster. The overall number of players on the team is now thirty after this new addition.
Kumara played their final international matches for Sri Lanka against India in the Mohali Test in March of 2022. Chameera was unable to compete in the Asia Cup because of an injury to his calf, and Kumara played his last match for Sri Lanka against India in the Mohali Test. In their absence, Karunaratne, Madushanka, and Madushan, who collectively collected a total of 19 wickets during Sri Lanka’s winning campaign, were tasked with the task of maintaining the pace of play. They were successful in this endeavor.
T20 World Cup: World Cup format
Group A of the Twenty20 World Cup will consist of Sri Lanka, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United Arab Emirates. Sri Lanka will compete in this group during the first round of the tournament. Only the top two teams from each groups A and B will move on to the next level, which is called the Super 12 stage. The countries of Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe are all part of Group B.
The first game of the campaign for Sri Lanka, which will be their opening game, will be played on October 16 and will be against Namibia.
After that, they will compete in a match against the UAE on the 18th of October, and then on the 20th of October, they will compete in a match against the Netherlands. At this point in time, it is anticipated that all three matches will be held at Simonds Stadium, which is located in Geelong.
