As the new season of the Indian Premier League is now around the corner, a huge development is now taking place in CSK’s leadership. MS Dhoni announced that he will no more be the captain of the Chennai Super Kings and has handed over the position to the all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja has proven himself under the wings of MS Dhoni since joining the franchise in 2012 as a young player.
Ravindra Jadeja is now regarded as one of the best all-rounders in world cricket. Jadeja is the third player to become the captain of CSK after Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni.
Official statement on MS Dhoni handing over the captaincy
Ravindra Jadeja has been a significant part of the Chennai Super Kings throughout. Therefore Dhoni has made the right choice in selecting the next captain.
However, Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and the coming season.
Jadeja – The successor of MS Dhoni
Jadeja doesn’t need an introduction at all when it comes to showmanship. He has done wonders with bat and ball, proving that he is one of the premium all-rounders in the world. Just like Dwayne Bravo, Jadeja has played a vital player in CSK being one of the most consistent franchises in the series. Jadeja was the most expensive retained player in the IPL 2022 mega auctions (16 crores).
Be it batting, fielding, or bowling, when Jadeja is on the ground, he outshines every player and area. With each season, he has shown a gradual upward progression in the batting department. He has even taken his batting into the next plane in the last few seasons.
Sunil Gavaskar’s opinion on Jadeja taking over MS Dhoni
The Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar had earlier mentioned that Jadeja could be the right choice for the captaincy if Dhoni decides to take a break from the responsibility.
He added that he had noticed the player has grown eventually as a matured one over the last few years. Gavaskar admires the way Jadeja makes adjustments according to the game requirements and his ability to read the match situations.
Gavaskar said that it would not be very surprising to him if Dhoni decided to take a break and handing over the captaincy to Jadeja.
