MI vs RR: Jos Buttler was kept in bay till the 15th over

RR only managed 40 in the powerplay and lost the left-handed opener during the session, despite Devdutt Padikkal striking three fours in a Daniel Sams over and Buttler scoring a couple of boundaries off Hrithik Shokeen. Kumar Kartikeya, a debutant, bowled amazing left-arm wrist spin and effective variations to keep the hitters from breaking through. He bowled four overs in a row for 19 runs, including a pair of sixes off Shokeen, and accounted for Sanju Samson, who had just started to get going.
MI vs RR: Buttler breaking out
Shokeen hit four consecutive sixes in the 16th over. Buttler brought up a 48-ball fifty with the first two sixes – over long-on and straight – and celebrated it with two more maximums as he cleared deep midwicket and long-off. Buttler let the fifth one go because it was wide of the mark, only to have the umpire ruled it was within the line. In the next over, Buttler tried a fifth six but toe-ended it to long-off, leaving RR at 126/4.
