DC vs GT IPL 2022: Delhi Capitals were 46 for 3 at the end of the powerplay run for the target of 177 in their opening clash. They managed to win the match against Mumbai Indians. The issues with powerplay came to bite them back in their second game. They slipped to 43 for 3 against the debutants Gujarat Titans chasing 171. DC lost that game for 15 runs.
DC vs GT IPL 2022: Ricky Ponting’s statement
The opening line-up of the Delhi Capitals fell cheaply. Tim Seifert has had scores of 21 and 3, Mandeep Singh did not fire and Prithvi Shaw did not see a long crease time. Therefore, it was no surprise when the head coach Ricky Ponting pointed out their opening line-up as the reason for the loss in the second game.
The head coach said that unfortunately for them it was the powerplay who became the villain in their second game as well. They managed to crawl through their first victory against Mumbai. However, they could not pull it off this time.
He appreciated Hardik Pandya for smartly using Lockie Ferguson. He used him as a strike bowler and it did not surprise Ponting the way he bowled. He believed that they had the game in their hand but it is really hard to win when you lose 3 wickets in the powerplay. Ponting said that Powerplay has a lot of room for improvement.

DC vs GT IPL 2022: The road to chase for DC

Delhi Capitals were able to control the chase pretty well against GT with Rishabh Pant and Lalit Yadav doing the reconstruction. They had the game in hand at one point. Ponting pointed out that they lost the momentum at some point and the required rate got out of their hands leading to a disappointing loss.
They went down by 15 runs but the run rate never went beyond 9 and a half runs per over. Rishabh Pant was in the middle of good innings, Powell had just gone out. They could have won the game if they were able to bat through 2 or more overs, they could have won the game.
Since Mitchell Marsh is progressing well and Anrich Nortje is bowling in the nets at full capacity, Ponting has no reason to be disappointed anymore. He has, however, had some homework regarding the powerplay strategy and also for Shaw. Ferguson came into the attack and got Shaw out exactly the way they might have discussed. Ponting said that they will have a word with Prithvi Shaw ahead of the next match and discuss strategies. He has gotten out twice playing the pull shot, therefore, Ponting said that there is work that needs to be done on Shaw’s shots.
