Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore will not only name their new captain on Saturday (March 12). They are also expected to identify De Villiers as a mentor of RCB for IPL 2022. Kohli reportedly asked AB de Villiers to join the coaching team as a mentor once the Indian batter stood down as captain after IPL 2021.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore also associated De Villiers’ countrymate Faf du Plessis’ name for the new skipper of IPL 2022. The Royal Challengers Bangalore has called for a press conference on March 12 at 4 PM for the above-mentioned event.
AB de Villiers career ahead of IPL 2022
In 2008, AB de Villiers debuted in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Delhi Daredevils. In the first three IPL seasons, he appeared for the Delhi Daredevils and scored 671 runs. That includes a century in the second edition.
He was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for Rs 5 crore in 2011 and has not been released since. He has single-handedly won several matches for his team, the most memorable of which was an 18-run innings in a Dale Steyn over.

AB de Villiers has scored 5053 runs in 175 matches, with an average of 41.08 and a strike rate of 152.70. He holds three centuries and 40 fifties to his name, with a maximum score of 133 runs.
Last season, AB de Villiers scored 313 runs in 15 games, with two fifties and a strike rate of 148.34. AB de Villiers scored 5,162 runs in 184 games in the IPL, averaging 39.7 with a strike rate of 151.68, including three hundred and 40 fifties.
