
Sri Lanka found their way back in the second half of the first session of the India vs Sri Lanka Test after India’s openers decided the game earlier on the first day. Rohit Sharma chose to bat after winning the toss as the Test captain for the first time.
India vs Sri Lanka: A rough patch for the Lankan bowlers
The Sri Lankan pacers could not make the best use of the conditions at the beginning with the new ball. The pitch had green grass covering through the middle.
Visha Fernando and Suranga Lakmal caught the hang of the pitch but it all went south as the openers started freely. Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma drove the game with ease and scored a half-century early on in the partnership.
Bowlers getting a grip over Indian openers
Rohit was merciless with the short-pitched deliveries by Lahiru Kumara. Rohit pulled some of them beyond boundaries through midwicket. The pull he shot straight was caught in the hands of the fine leg fielder that got him out for 29 off 28.
Sri Lanka established control over India slightly after the left-arm spinner Lasith Embuldeniya was brought into the attack. Mayank attacked him early on as he cut him for a boundary, although the spinner had the last laugh as he trapped him in front.

Virat Kohli could have gone out on a duck on his 100th Test as a leading-edge gone to hand. Lasith Embuldeniya almost got him out but Kohli made a narrow escape.

Cheteshwar Pujara was earlier replaced by Hanuma Vihari and he is now batting in the position which recently belonged to Pujara. Virat Kohli though saw an early dismissal in front of his eyes, passed through the session without any further damage.
