
As part of a new investment initiative announced by Cricket Ireland, Irish cricket will have its first full-time professional women’s players in 2022.
Twenty professional contracts have been provided as part of a €1.5 million investment in women’s cricket in Ireland. It consists of seven full-time contracts, nine part-time contracts, and four non-retainers.
All full-time contracts will begin this month. It will mark Cricket Ireland’s first full-time professional women’s cricketers available for the summer of 2022.
Part-time contracts are aimed to assist students. They will provide financial assistance to pay for their training, development, and summer playing schedule.
Cricket Ireland chief executive Warren Deutrom’s statement
“The work behind-the-scenes to get to this position has been three years in the making,” said Warren Deutrom, Cricket Ireland’s Chief Executive.
Following the team’s success at the 2018 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, they have committed themselves to a mission to professionalize women’s cricket. She stated that not only was it the right thing to do, but it was also the correct thing to do.

Cricket Ireland’s announcement on the investment

The €1.5 million was released on Thursday. March 10 reflects a threefold increase in spending over the previous year.
Richard Holdsworth, Cricket Ireland’s High-Performance Director stated that it’s important to stress that today’s announcements are not ‘done and dusted.
This is only the beginning of their new era. Their senior women’s team qualified for the ICC Women’s Championship in 2021, and
They don’t want to simply play there once; we want to compete there every year. They aim to make a name for themselves in the women’s game’s upper echelon.
